Earlier that afternoon Kula had spent some quality time with Xumbai, the mother of Chumvi. During that time they had discussed the situation within the pride. How their new King was planning on leaving for a time to visit with his friends that called the jungle home. Just thinking of it brought on a sick anger in her chest. Now that the sky was growing orange as dusk approached the dusky lioness approached pride rock, her intentions were to find her best friend Nala. She hadn't seen the lion Queen in a few days and figured she would want some company. Approaching the den, Kula chuffed softly, letting her know who it was before she stepped inside. Any mother would be protective of her young and Nala now had a son to watch after. Her eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness of the den, and she soon saw her friend. She approached her quietly, taking in the sight of new life. Kopa was only about a month old at the moment, and was still so precious to her. Her own cubs would be born any day now and she could join her best friend in this new chapter of life. She enjoyed the idea of raising her cubs along side Nala and Tama.
Finally she stopped and rubbed her head against the young Queens, before moving to lay down nearby so they could talk without being loud. With a soft grunt she rolled onto her side, her large belly seeming to heave with effort as she tried to relax. The cubs seemed restless this night and she wondered if labor would soon be upon her. Ignoring it for the moment, she focused her attention upon Kopa. "How are you doing this evening Nala? I heard tomorrow is the big day when Simba is leaving.." Kula whispered softly, her orange eyes peeking at the other lioness for a moment.
She couldn't imagine what Nala felt.. to know that her mate was leaving. They had only found each other and now he was going back. Exhaling softly the darker lioness looked towards the den entrance half expecting Simba to walk in. It would figure. Her ears folded back silently as she gazed upon her friend and the prince. The anger she herself would feel would truly be immense if Chumvi picked someone else over her and their family. Over his pride.. It just didn't make sense to the young lioness that their King would leave this all behind again.
However she would wait to voice her thoughts, she wanted to see how Nala felt before saying anything.

Nala lay in the darkest area of the den. She had been hiding quite a bit as of late. She still tried to keep up appearences but.. something was wrong. As Kopa nursed, Nala let out small grows and clicks of pain. Each time the cub pressed his little paws against her, she felt pain. She was so scared. Too scared to seek Rafiki or alert Sarabi. She hoped it would pass, but as each day worsened, Nala knew something was off. And now.. of all times.. Simba was leaving...
The tawny cream colored ess twitched an ear and growled as Kula chuffed. However, when Kula entered fully, the Queen calmed down and sighed.
"Hello Kula."
She spoke softly. She tried to hide her pain and smiled. However, when Kula reminded her of Simba, Nala only frowned. She understood his want to see his friends. As long as he werent gone forever.. Nala could handle the pride. Or.. could have if she were healthy.
"Sarabi has convinced him to bring his guardians back. Simba should not be more than a few weeks. Besides, me and you? We did just fine when he was run out as a cub. And we endured Scar's horrible cruelty together. My rump still hurts from that Hyena bite.."
Nala chuckled to Kula. They had some crazy adventures as cubs.. and now.. they were to start families at the same time. Another adventure her and her chocolate friend would embark on. However, something ripped through her thoughs. As Kopa hit a bad spot. Nala jerked and snarled, curling around instinctively, her fangs bared at the cub. Her maternal instincts kept her from biting him, but the pain.. The pain hurt so bad.. She even still looked a bit pregnant..

The darker female noticed silently that her friend seemed to be moody this evening. She did not seem open to having company, Kula frowned lightly as she looked at Nala for a moment. Indeed something seemed incredibly off for the pale Queen. It made her worry for her friend, for if something was wrong then they needed to fix it soon. The pride was already losing it's king, they could not lose their queen as well. She shifted her bulk silently as she watched them closely, saw how sometimes Kopa would bump her and she was grow incredibly agitated and angry. The conversation involving Simba died away for the time being as she sat up slowly and approached Nala with caution. One could never be to careful around a mother let alone one that was hurting because of something. "I think something is wrong Nala.. you shouldn't still be in pain.. Kopa has been here almost a month already.. Those pains should be long gone.. Do you want me to call for Sarabi?" She questioned her best friend softly her orange eyes shining with worry as she almost snapped at the young prince. Kula was in a rough position right now, she wanted to pull the prince away for a little while.. but feared the Queen's reaction to her motions.
"The pride cannot have you injured and the King gone on vacation. It would be to perfect for someone to cause trouble. We both know Scar still lingers around these lands.. as much as we hope he left." Kula told her absently and waited for her okay to go and call for Sarabi. Perhaps she would know what was wrong and what needed to be done to help Nala out. Kula paced back and forth for a few moments.
Normally she could go and find the King. She doubted that Simba would know what to do or say about this situation. Frowning she continued to pace back and forth, ignoring the kicks and sometimes mild cramping from her own cubs. Worry was flooding her system right now, and she wanted a answer.

Nala settled and shook herself. She nearly attacked her own son.. This pain.. It was horrible. She didn't want to worry everyone with Simba leaving. Her tail lashed at each twitching pain. Even after the young cub stopped nursing, she still hurt. It felt like labor.. but.. worse.. Far worse..
"I. I don't want to worry them, Kula. Ng.. Go.. Go get Sarabi.. But please.. Don't tell the others.. Please.. Especially not Simba.."
Nala begged. Something was wrong and she couldn't hide it anymore. Why was this happening? Ugh.. But Kula was right.. Scar was still out there.. If she was weak, he'd easily be able to make a move..

As soon as the words left Nala's mouth, Kula exited the den and began the search for the former Queen. She hoped that Sarabi could give them both the answers they sought out and not just more worry. She herself did not know much about pregnancy or pain from cubs either, being that this was the first time for her to have cubs as well. Her own mother was a distant memory for Kula and so she had no one to ask advice from. Moving around the large base of pride rock and moving out along the many ledges that the pride often used.. The dark lioness soon found Sarabi resting on one of them, her attention was off in the pride lands seemingly far away from where she actually lay. Chuffing softly, Kula stopped a few feet away and tried to erase the panic that was etched across her pretty face. She didn't want Sarabi upset or beginning to panic herself.. and so the lioness opened her mouth to speak as the larger female turned to look at her.
"Can you come and see Nala? She's in pain and doesn't really know what is going on.. in her pain she almost attacked the prince.."
She murmured quietly to the lioness. Within a few seconds Sarabi stood and stretched her muscular form moving past Kula as they returned to the dark den in which the new Queen rested with her son. Sarabi did not bother to stop and chuff a welcome as she padded inside, the shadows highlighting her serene features. Stopping close the older lioness silently examined the pale female with a long look to her mid section, her maroon eyes searching for any sign of disease or sickness. On the outside Nala looked healthy except for the bulge in her stomach that made Sarabi think she looked pregnant still.. but how could that be? A puzzled look crossed her face as she looked back at Kula who stood near the entrance to keep anyone out that may be curious.
They didn't need more rumors going around about the royal family right now. "How long have you felt this way Nala?" Sarabi questioned her daughter in law softly, her features becoming a bit more worried as time went on. Normally the pains of labor went away within a few days of birth, Kopa was nearly a month old now and his mom should be feeling fine by now. She wasn't however and that was concerning for the older lioness.
Perhaps they should consult Rafiki? He may know what is wrong. [/color]

Nala thought for a moment. She had felt this way ever since she had Kopa. Well.. the pain wasn't there after he was born and presented. But soon after. Her belly wasn't going down by much either and she didn't shed any afterbirth. She wasn't ill.. or so she hoped.
"A little after Kopa's presentation. I thought they were just regular pains from giving birth.. But.. they never stopped. I just.. don't want Simba to know. He's worked so hard. Had his past thrown at him and told he was living a Lie his whole life.. He deserves this little vacation.."
She mewed worridly. She didn't want Simba to miss his trip to the jungle to fetch his friends. Nor did she want Rafiki to come here. He was a good friend and healer, but she worried a visit would attract unwanted attention from the other lionesses. Something Nala was afraid of. Especially with the group that were loyal to Scar.. and Zira.. Something was wrong with that lioness..
