After leaving Nala in Sarabi's care and protection, Kula had excused herself. Walking down the ramp and into the grassland the young lioness slowly made her way towards the birthing fields. She knew that Chumvi would be waiting for her, they were going to find a den this evening. Deep down she knew the cubs were going to come very soon, and perhaps it would be best if she stayed at the den for now. It took the heavily pregnant lioness a long time to make her way into the birthing fields. Her heavily pregnant belly made it hard for her to walk let alone run at this point. Panting softly, she took a moment to catch her breath.
Glancing around for a moment she tried to locate her mate, but he wasn't here. She chuffed lowly as she walked along, knowing that at any moment the large male would appear and they could find a safe haven for their family. Walking along the trail, the dark lioness moved up a small hill. Now that she had found a vantage point she could take a moment to look around. A actual den would be best for her and Chumvi since she wanted him around to keep the cubs safe.
She located a larger hill, and on that hill was a den. It went back into the hill almost perfectly, and indeed that is perfect. Sitting down slowly, Kula continued to chuff for her mate so they could get this over with.As the sun continued to go down she felt her eyes getting a bit heavy, sleep would be a blessing this night.

Chumvi's ears had perked as he heard the chuff, he knew the unique sound of his mate, so set off to meet her at once, he had remained fairly close to the birthing fields for most of the evening, so a steady trot was all he needed to bring himself into the area, and up to Kula's side. When he saw her, he hesitated slightly, he kept forgetting how big she was getting, always expecting to see his mate without the round belly that came from carrying his cubs. He grinned at his foolishness, and rubbed against her side as he caught up, then tilted his head to one side in a questioning way. Chumvi didn't know much about cubs, he had never had a litter, and had no siblings on his mothers side, so had never really experienced what it took to raise cubs, he knew little about what would make a good den, so planned to take Kula's lead, so long as he thought the area safe.
Kula also had little experience with cubs, but the maternal instinct and nesting instinct were kicking in while the cubs were on their way, Chumvi's parental instincts were not evident, and probably wouldn't be until his cubs were actually born. He was getting more and more nervous, but wanted to keep strong for Kula, so was hiding his nerves from his mate, which was only causing him more stress. He sighed softly, his orbs flicking around the area, looking for an obvious place to have their den.

After making the den as comfortable as she could, lining an area with soft grass and leaves the dark lioness relaxed. Her eyes fixed themselves on the entrance as her body experienced that sweet pang of labor. It was such a sweet pain, and she fought through it as best as she could. Her grunts of effort and soft cries of pain filled the evening. By the time the moon was full and thick was her labor over with. Laying securely at her belly were two tiny cubs, a boy cub and a girl. With all of her belly gone, Kula almost seemed tiny again. She cleaned the cubs of their afterbirth and began the bonding process that would last a life time. The cubs sweet little squeaks were music to her ears, and she purred in response a rough sound for a lioness. Her paws kneaded the floor as she felt a sense of contentment, something she had never felt before. Finally, after the cubs were cleaned up and the afterbirth eaten, she called for her mate to enter the den. The idea of a male being near her cubs made her nervous but she knew Chumvi would never harm his cubs. Nudging the two cubs towards her belly she felt them suckle for the first time, drinking that life giving milk. Kula smiled softly to herself as she watched them silently, getting used to their appearance and scent. The boy was a bit darker than the girl, but both cubs were equally dark in appearance. They took after their parents quite perfectly.
She couldn't wait to see them grow out of this stage, to have personality. Kula wondered if her daughter would be chosen to be Kopa's mate. The thought had occured to her often during her pregnancy. Nala and Simba had plenty of girls to pick from, the pride had exprienced a baby boom after Scar's disappearance. The pride was filled with cubs and it was such a great thing to see again. Kula silently hoped her daughter would be picked to be the pride's next Queen, it would be such a honor. Closing her eyes for a moment she continued to relax, willing her body to sleep.
It was hard however, her maternal instincts kept her wide awake. Her orange eyes danced with a variety of emotion. "What do you think of our cubs, Chumvi?" Kula asked her mate quietly, and looked into his eyes for approval.

Chumvi waited patiently outside, on guard and nervous. His ears were perked and flicking around occasionally, listening intently for any threat. His eyes were fixed on the horizon, but constantly scanning, his chest puffed out, claws unsheathed, trying to look as intimidating as he could. He wanted to protect his mate and cubs. It was getting close. Although to anyone watching, it may look that Chumvi was intent on protecting the den and completely focused to his task, this was not the case. His body was ready for action, but his mind was distracted, in complete overdrive. He was filled with worry and fear, wondering how his cubs were, were they here yet? were they healthy? how many? Did he have a son, daughter, both? Questions relentlessly swarmed his head, he was unable to snap out of his trance, until finally..
Kula's chuff broke his train of thought, at first his entire body tensed, terrified that something had gone wrong, now worried for Kula. But he relaxed in almost the same moment, trying to calm himself, sure that nothing was actually wrong, Kula sounded fairly relaxed. It must be time for him to meet his cubs. He took a second to compose himself, took deep breaths, and unsheathed his steely claws, he didn't want to look intimidating on his first meeting with his cubs. He took slow careful steps into the den, stopping a few feet away. His eyes widened as he took in the sight of his cubs, he didn't know what to say. They're perfect.. he breathed, then moved forwards and nuzzled Kula, You must be tired. He would happily stay up while she slept to watch over all three of them, but he didn't want to suggest it just yet, in case Kula wasn't ready to sleep.

She watched the approach of her mate with a loving gleam in her eyes, he seemed so skittish right his moment. As though a squeal from the cubs would send him running for his life, it was comical to the lioness but she did not laugh at him. Becoming a father was a big deal with a lion, and some didn't do well with it. She exhaled softly as he came to stand before her, his eyes warm and rather excited to see the cubs. His murmur made her smile grow as he told her how perfect they were to him, indeed they were just that.
Looking at her baby boy and little girl she felt the love for them bloom even deeper into her heart. His next words made her nod slightly, indeed she was tired right now but sleep was so far away right this moment. She was to wound up from birth and then becoming a mother. Kula stretched a bit, her claws scratching at the rocks for a moment before retracting yet again. "I will sleep later when I have relaxed.. for now I'm to excited to sleep.." The lioness told her mate quietly as she rested her head on a paw, her ears finely attuned to the sounds her cubs were making.
Both were busy suckling milk for the first time, she could feel their tiny paws kneading her belly as they ate for the first time. Occasionally one would squeak or squeal, sometimes they'd mew which would melt her heart. Kula curled slightly as the night breeze touched her face, she wanted to keep the cubs nice and warm through their first night on earth. A thought touched her. "We should name them.. Do you have any ideas for names Chumvi?" She asked her mate softly, her orange eyes watching his large frame for a moment, waiting for a response.
